Location
Historic Tarboro, North Carolina, was chartered in 1760. Nestled in a bend of the Tar River, Tarboro has one of the largest historic districts in North Carolina, Town Common, a 15-acre expanse canopied by tall oaks. At one time Town Common was used for grazing of livestock, community gatherings and military drills. Today more than 200 historic homes line its 45 blocks. It is the only remaining original common on the east coast outside of Boston.
Tarboro's walkable downtown, recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation "Main Street Program,” is home to an eclectic blend of shopping, dining, entertainment and service oriented small businesses, as well as several community organizations, including The Blount-Bridgers House, the Hobson Pittman Memorial Gallery, The 1860 Cotton Press, Tar River Players, The Edgecombe County Veterans Military Museum and Edgecombe County Memorial Library.
Through Heritage Hospital, part of the University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, Tarboro's residents enjoy access to world-class health care.
In close proximity to the nearby metro areas of Raleigh and Greenville, Tarboro is ideally located for those who enjoy the charm of small town living plus the benefits and amenities of larger cities.
