pecan apple pie recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup margarine, melted
  • 1 pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a 9 inch deep-dish pie pan, combine margarine, brown sugar and pecans.
  3. Spread the mixture into a layer, and roll out dough. Place bottom crust over pecan mixture.
  4. Combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg, and pour into the pan with the crust and mixture. Put the second crust over this. Flute and seal edges. Make three one-inch slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender.
  6. After cooling the pie in pan for several minutes after removing it from the oven, place a plate over the pie, and flip to invert.
