In 1906 the new community of Beverly Hills was opened on fertile ranch land and declared by its developers to be a "beautiful suburban residence between this city Los Angeles and Santa Monica," where buyers could design and build custom homes on the land they purchased.

Five years later work began on the Beverly Hills Hotel. And Beverly Hills, with lots selling for around $2,000 each, soon drew such Hollywood luminaries as Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, Harold Lloyd, John Barrymore, Robert Montgomery and Miriam Hopkins.

Today Beverly Hills is known for its gracious lifestyle, including world-class shopping, dining and, of course, star gazing.
