The Watermark at East Hill Helps Make
Holidays Brighter for Southbury’s Less Fortunate
SOUTHBURY, Conn.: The holiday season was made brighter for many of Southbury’s less fortunate through the generosity of The Watermark at East Hill community. Throughout November and December, East Hill sponsored events to collect food, clothing, toys and funds to support the Southbury Needy Fund.
“Residents at The Watermark at East Hill are continuously looking for opportunities to serve in the community, especially during the holiday season,” said Michelle Bettigole, executive director for The Watermark at East Hill. “We also have many different groups, such as the Knitters, that use their talents to help and encourage others in Southbury.”
Among the many charitable events sponsored by East Hill include collecting food for the Southbury Food Bank. At the annual Second Company Governor’s Foot Guard tribute concert on Nov. 13, East Hill collected and donated more than 200 non-perishable food items. In addition, the residents of East Hill collected more than 65 toys, six hand-made baby blankets and money, as part of the “Holiday Gift Program for Children.” The Knitters at East Hill donated 23 handmade afghans, along with collecting money at their annual Thanksgiving Interfaith Service, to support the “Holiday Gift Baskets for Seniors” for local seniors in need of holiday cheer. The Knitters created knit squares for afghans, which were put together by East Hill resident Phyllis Dixon.
In addition to the afghans and baby blankets, the Knitters created afghans for East Hill assisted living and health care residents and baby blankets for Safe Haven, a local women’s shelter. They also sold additional afghans and baby blankets at the community’s in-house Country Store, with proceeds benefiting the Southbury Fuel Bank.
