Watermark Retirement Communities has teamed with Google to launch an eight-week computer and technology learning program at The Fountains at La Cholla in Tucson, Arizona. Engage! Powered by Google.
Each participating resident received a Google Chromebook at the kickoff event in June, attended weekly workshops and individual coaching sessions. Through the guidance of Watermark and Google staff as their mentors, residents learned how to use computers as a source of knowledge, growth, and connection, rather than just a utility.
The vision for all Watermark Retirement Communities across the country is to create extraordinary places where people thrive, and the program clearly supports this vision. Participants, ranging in age from 76 to 98, learned different ways to connect with friends and family through email, internet browsing, and Google Hangouts. They had such a positive experience that Watermark is planning subsequent phases for this program. Phase II, which already has a waiting list, will include refining the program to provide opportunities for original participants to serve as coaches. Phase III will include program expansion to other Watermark Retirement Communities across the country.
