West Shore Trail
The West Shore Trail in the Village of Churchville has long been a focal point for residents, following the route of the former West Shore Railroad. Newly repaved and upgraded, complete with a caboose painted in the original colors of the railroad as its anchor, the Trail attracts villagers and visitors alike.

History
In 1806, Samuel Church purchased 897 acres along Black Creek in what was then known as West Pultney and built a saw mill and a grist mill. At the conclusion of the War of 1812, a railroad was constructed connecting the area to other towns, and more businesses and shops quickly appeared. When the Village of Churchville was officially formed in 1852, it was named after Samuel, who owned all the land in the village.
The Village prospered in the 20th century as a suburb of Rochester, and the Rochester Post Express described it as a "banner village...a place of quiet, away from noise and disturbances of every description known in city life." These qualities are proudly maintained today, and Churchville continues to reflect the “healthfulness, beauty, and progress” that have made it an ideal place to live for two centuries.
