Preparation for Hurricane Dorian Pays Off

Once again, we have weathered yet another storm. With 30 years of experience preparing for and executing effective plans for hurricanes and natural disasters, our dedicated associates have expertly navigated Hurricane Dorian.

While most of America was planning for a long, fun-filled Labor Day weekend, our team of leaders from our communities and resources from Watermark Retirement Communities attended to every detail before, during and after the storm. Each of our communities in the storm’s path implemented comprehensive hurricane preparedness plans and communication protocols that included email updates as well as a toll-free line direct to Watermark resources provided to loved ones in the event phones and lines of communication were temporarily disrupted.

The activated preparedness checklist ensured there was more than enough food, water and supplies on-hand to for the safety and well-being of all involved. In addition, community associates battened down the hatches, securing outdoor furnishings, windows and more from wind gusts and driving rain.

What’s more, Watermark communities adhere to the state Agency for Health Care Administration. Our communities are part of the 94% of assisted living communities that are in compliance with Florida’s requirements for permanent backup generators. This is just one detail in place to ensure we are providing an extraordinary community where people thrive, rain or shine.

“We’d like to thank our dedicated associates, some of whom stayed overnight to provide care and comfort to ensure our residents had a smooth experience,” said Lynn Navolio, Managing Director for Watermark. “Those in the storm’s path are our highest priority and we plan and prepare year-round to ensure we are ready for whatever mother nature sends our way.”

It is our privilege to earn the trust placed in us by residents and their families. You can learn more about Watermark and our communities at
