Few people have probably stayed in more senior living communities and skilled nursing facilities than Senior Housing Forum’s Steve Moran. When he writes about one, he tries to stay there. One imagines he explores the spaces, eats the food and talks to the residents and associates. It seems to be important to him to get a real sense of place and community in order to write fairly and with the detail that can only come of spending some real time somewhere.
Watermark is honored that he chose one of our communities as one of his very favorite: Bayside Park in Emeryville, CA. Bayside Park is one of four senior communities to get this special “rating”. This community offers Assisted Living and Memory Care in a high-rise building with views of the Bay. The architecture features notably complex spaces, with lots of large windows that create an interior filled with natural light. There are easy indoor/outdoor transitions that invite exploration and just hanging out. Programming is centered on Watermark University, a pillar of all Watermark communities that brings residents, associates and families together to create classes that promote life-long learning and whole-person well-being. (Watermark University won International Council on Active Aging® Innovators Achievement Award for 2017.) At Bayside Park associates are specially trained for caring for people living with dementia and just completed training so that Bayside Park is a MUSIC & MEMORY℠ community.
Although he likely could cite many criteria for his selection of favorite senior communities, Moran says it’s a pretty simple selection process: “At the end of the day, it is this completely fluffy thing. They just feel good from the moment you walk through the front door.” Read more here.
