Speaking Together

The Fountains at Bronson Place, Kalamazoo, MI – Each Friday morning through June 19th, a dozen or so Arabic-speaking students come into our lobby and meet up with our residents to practice reading exercises in English. Of course, there is also plenty of interesting conversation going on as well, making this experience a delightful one for both the students and residents.

After the first meeting on May 22, the university coordinator reported to The Fountains Community Life Director that the students couldn’t wait to come back, as they had had such a wonderful time with our residents. Likewise, the residents were present, in larger numbers for the second meeting, with huge smiles on their faces and welcoming words for their new found Arabic friends. Even one of our caregivers, a native of Morocco, dropped in to share a few greetings in Arabic with our visitors!
