Silverstone Senior Living, and operating partner Watermark Retirement Communities®, are creating a senior living community on nearly 2 acres at the Potomac Yard at 2620 Main Line Blvd, Alexandria, Virginia. The $100 million, 216,000-square-foot development will include 163 residences.
The remarkable new community, boasting panoramic views of Washington DC, the Potomac River and the George Washington Masonic Temple in Alexandria, is part of a larger area dubbed the National Landing that is currently transforming as new developments make way. These projects include Amazon’s planned HQ2 buildings, the future Virginia Tech Innovation campus and Old Town. This new urbanism will bring prosperity and added diversity to the area, enhancing the vitality of The Landing. Construction on The Landing began in February 2020 and the community is expected to open early in 2022.
The Landing is a nine-story building with 156 residences, encompassing a mixture of Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care, including The Bridge Program that provides for residents with mild cognitive impairment. Studio, one- and two-bedroom residences will be available on a monthly rental basis, with larger two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments on the top floors offering sweeping views. Residences will feature modern kitchenettes, designer appliances and vaulted ceilings, some with private balconies. The Memory Care neighborhood, on a secure second floor and featuring private and semi-private suites, will have several inviting common areas including living rooms, an open kitchen with family-style seating, a small beauty salon and a large screened terrace.
With roots in the hospitality industry, The Landing will seamlessly blend intentional design and innovative programming to promote each resident’s well-being and vibrant longevity. Architecture and design will feature the best of the regional new urbanism movement with strong modernist influences, ample windows – many floor to ceiling – and open, balconies, and flexible floor plans that invite a comfortable indoor/outdoor lifestyle that will take advantage of the area’s beautiful seasons and promote a sense of being part of the larger neighborhood. In addition to fully landscaped courtyard on the third floor, a large landscaped terrace with a pergola on the eighth floor of the building will offer stunning views.
Complete with a robust suite of grand-scale services and amenities grounded in a concierge model, the community amenities will highlight cuisine, wellness and hospitality. The community will have several destination dining venues: a large open dining venue with a display kitchen that flows into an adjacent casual café with a sports bar vibe, a nearby club room with double fireplace, a wine room, terrace dining areas and smaller spaces for catered special events. Amenities include a fully-equipped wellness center, salon and spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, and multiple activity venues.
