According to the 2017 American Community Survey by the Census Bureau, veterans totaled 18.2 million with almost half of those — more than 9 million — age 65 and older. Watermark communities coast to coast are proud to provide extraordinary and innovative senior living communities to our service men and women, and celebrations abounded across the country on Veteran’s Day and every day.
On Veteran’s Day, communities raised awareness while recognizing the sacrifices those in the armed services and their families made for our freedoms. From color guard presentations and champagne toasts to AMVETS wall unveilings and flag raisings, Watermark communities hosted a variety of brunches and gatherings to observe the national holiday and honor those who served.
The Veteran’s Day celebration was extra special at The Watermark at Logan Square. The senior living community in the heart of Center City recognized about 40 residents for their military service — among those honored was World War II veteran Nelson Henry Jr. Nelson, 96, marked this year’s Veterans Day festivities with an honorable discharge from the Army — 75 years in the making. Watermark continues to celebrate Veterans through the year. We work with our residents to apply for Veteran Honor Flights and create engaging opportunities to connect with fellow veterans. You’ll often find events and seminars hosted at our communities specifically designed for military retirees. We welcome veterans to join us for intergenerational visits or to contribute their knowledge and experience to Watermark University classes on history and service. Watermark communities host lunch and learn events with VA benefit specialists and we are committed to providing assistance and resources to help our Veterans enjoy a life that is engaged, fun, comfortable, secure and fulfilling.
