Expressions 2021 Annual Calendar: Creativity from the Heart

Throughout 2020, we learned that caring for and about one another is crucial, and that hope sustains us through even the darkest days. Watermark residents at communities coast to coast have demonstrated that even when the going gets tough, Watermark remains an extraordinary and innovative environment where people thrive to their fullest potential. Expressions is a perfect example of just that.

The 2021 Expressions calendar features spectacular artwork handcrafted by our talented residents, reminding us that art is an important creative outlet in challenging times. Residents from each Watermark community contributed to the annual call for entries, resulting in hundreds of submissions from inspiring senior artists nationwide.
We’re proud to share their talents, which include sculptures, jewelry, embroidery, woodcarvings, photography, drawings, paintings and more, in the form of an award-winning wall calendar. Knowing that many of these projects were created to bring color, joy and purpose during the stay-at-home order make the masterpieces an inspiring reminder to seek positivity, no matter the circumstances.

The full-color, 32-page calendar features a special story of hope from a Watermark resident. At the height of the 2020 pandemic, Eddie Schechter received a heartwarming gift from his son, Alex. Attached to the fence outside of his apartment window was the word “HOPE” crafted in large, bright red letters. The incredible piece of art was not only enjoyed by Eddie, who called it the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, but it was deeply appreciated by those who passed and stopped to take pictures. This work of art is a perfect example of what Watermark strives to achieve for our residents – a simple act of kindness and creativity can change one’s perspective, improve their mood and remind them that hope is alive throughout humanity.

This Watermark tradition continues to encourage everyone to cultivate their own gifts and share them with the world, and the 2021 calendar aims to share a heartfelt picture of creativity and beauty.
