The Skybridge at Town Center
Small-town life with a big city next door.
The Sky Bridge at Town Center puts residents close to the people, places, and possibilities of the Washington, D.C., region. Spend an afternoon along the waterfront at National Harbor, visit a Smithsonian museum, take in a concert or sporting event, or enjoy the open space and wildlife at Merkle Natural Resources Management Area. Whether the day calls for something familiar or somewhere new, there is always more within reach.
Neighborhood Highlights
Lincoln Memorial
A symbol of the enduring struggle for freedom and emancipation, the Lincoln Memorial is a larger-than-life monument that honors a larger-than-life American persona, Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln’s second inaugural address and the Gettysburg Address are both etched into the memorial’s walls. The Lincoln Memorial is worth the visit, day or night, although some travelers believe the most inspiring time to visit is (just) after dark, when the attraction is well lit and less crowded. No matter what time of day you visit, it will inspire you nonetheless.
Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s greatest museums. Located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., you’ll embark on a journey starting with Earth's early and fiery beginnings. Venture through time and multiple geographical transformations until you finally reach the emergence of life. Enjoy exhibits and interactive activities on various subjects, including zoology, anthropology, mineral sciences, and botany. When you want to learn about the most significant historical moments of the last several billion years of the natural world, the Smithsonian is the place to go.
Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources operates the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and Visitor's Center. This spectacular wildlife refuge is conveniently located right in Upper Marlboro. It encompasses nearly 1,700 acres, serving as a breeding area and wintering ground for Canadian geese. Founder Edgar A. Merkle also founded Merkle Press, which printed Sports Illustrated, Life magazine, and many other popular publications over the years.
About Upper Marlboro
Upper Marlboro brings together deep Maryland history and convenient access to the greater Washington region. Chartered in 1706, the town began as a port and later became the county seat of Prince George’s County. Its historic district still includes buildings and residences that reflect its colonial past.
Today, The Sky Bridge at Town Center is part of the broader Upper Marlboro community, with a location in Downtown Largo that places shopping, health care, transportation, and regional attractions close by.
