Stephen’s zest for sports never waned despite losing both legs below the knee at age two. Growing up in Phoenix as part of a sports-loving family, he discovered wheelchair basketball in high school and was instantly hooked. When a scholarship opportunity from the University of Arizona’s wheelchair basketball team coach came his way, a lack of a specialized sports wheelchair almost became a showstopper. Watermark for Kids funded Stephen’s custom wheelchair so he could attend college and fulfill his dream of playing basketball.
