When we think of our daily exercise routine, it usually includes stretching, treadmills and bicycles. There are so many fun and exciting ways to spice up your workouts and some of them might just surprise you. At The Watermark, we’ve discovered a way to keep your arms in shape while at the same time promoting relaxation and creativity. Any guesses? We’ve discovered the benefits of drumming! Drumming has been a pastime for human beings stretching as far back as our memories allow. It’s been an integral part of tribal culture on all continents and still maintains that status. While drumming is a way to unite a tribe, it’s also a great way to get your arms moving and your blood flowing. On top of the benefit of keeping your arm muscles in shape, drumming can also promote relaxation. Studies have shown drumming to be an effective stress reliever and has been successfully used in physical therapy. Joining a drum circle can even help you become closer to the community around you. Now that sounds like a pretty great way to spend an hour! Pick up a drum, join a circle or start tapping around the house. Your body and mind will thank you.
