At East Village Place, mealtime became a main event during the latest Chopped Challenge. This resident-favorite culinary showdown brings out the best in associates and residents alike. Inspired by the popular reality series, this interactive event transforms mystery ingredients into memorable dishes, all while sparking laughter, connection, and creativity.

As featured in WWLP-22News and Yahoo News, the July 2nd competition pitted Executive Director Emily Perkins against Marketing Director Sherry Mayer. Their challenge? Create a delicious dish using roast beef, baby arugula, fig jam, and French baguettes. Culinary Director Steve Michon, who usually competes, stepped into the host role for the day, offering live commentary and guiding the crowd through the action.

Community, Connection, and a Whole Lot of Flavor

The Chopped Challenge is more than a fun event; it’s a tradition that reflects the spirit of East Village Place. Residents watch each round unfold via live camera and mic feeds, cheer on their favorite chefs, and even participate as guest judges.

“This event brings us all closer together,” said Chef Michon. “It’s amazing to see my team members work together and try to beat me. And I want them to beat me! It means we’re doing a good job and getting better at our craft.”

Judges for the most recent showdown included Community Life Director Judy Gagnon and resident Susan Chapin. Resident Regina Ellis, a past judge, shared why the event continues to be a favorite: “Everything is judged on creativity, presentation, and, of course, taste. It’s hard to decide between the two, because they’re both delicious!”

With ingredients ranging from chocolate chips to sour candies, no two challenges are the same. And the excitement doesn’t stop once the event ends — some residents have even requested that the winning dishes be added to the community’s menu.
