A group of residents from Caliche Senior Living was recently interviewed for the Helmet of Honor documentary project where they spoke about their experiences growing up during the Great Recession and World War II.
Patty Chambers, Joan Tarquino, and Peggy Croll recalled rationing basic necessities, being on the frontlines of war efforts, raising families, and demonstrating unwavering courage during some of the most tumultuous times in U.S. history.
“My job was to find spare parts for airplanes,” recalled Peggy. “It was a very interesting job.”
“I worked for the railroad for 18 years,” added Joan. “And the day the war ended, we all celebrated.”
