A new resident-led gospel choir at The Sky Bridge at Town Center recently took center stage — literally and figuratively — bringing joy, music, and connection to the community in a special Easter-themed cantata concert. The story, recently featured in The Prince George’s Post, highlights how one resident’s vision has grown into a beloved tradition that now unites neighbors through song.
The choir was the brainchild of La Quetta Golden, a longtime performer, and accomplished choir director who moved to the community with her husband less than a year ago. Inspired by her lifelong love of music and early days directing church choirs as a teen, La Quetta began leading a casual sing-along in November 2024. With the enthusiastic support of community associates and fellow residents, that sing-along quickly blossomed into a full choir, now more than 25 voices strong.
Since its formation, the choir has performed for several major holidays, from Christmas caroling to a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But it was the recent Easter cantata, held on the last day of Lent, that became their most ambitious and memorable performance yet. The concert featured solos, spoken word, and an atmosphere of pure joy that filled the room.
“To see the glee and joy in people’s eyes and the excitement in the air, it’s amazing,” said La Quetta. “We came here to live and through singing we get to do that.”
