A Brief History of Corona del Mar
The original inhabitants of the region of the Los Angeles Basin were the Tongva Indigenous peoples, and the land that is present-day Corona del Mar subsequently passed from the Spanish colonial period to its first Anglo owner, James Irvine, in the late 1800s. Irvine developed the land as a farm but struggled with drought and other difficulties.
In 1904, the real estate developer George E. Hart purchased the land and established the community of Corona del Mar. The price for a lot at the time was $100, but takers were few and far between. The area up and down the Pacific Coast Highway finally began to grow and thrive in the late 1940s with the influx of tourists and the businesses to serve them.
In more recent years, Corona del Mar and its magnificent beaches have been the stars of numerous films, TV shows, and music videos. And it never fails to impress!
