Judi Goes to Broadway

Music has the special ability to unite and uplift us, reminding us all of the joys that are shared when we engage in a musical experience together. No one knows this more than Judi, a resident at The Hacienda at Georgetown.

Over the years, music has played a key role in her life. Her talent for playing the piano has touched countless people in her community, including those diagnosed and living with Alzheimer’s disease. But today, music, and specifically musical theater, has comforted Judi as she battles a rare form of cancer.

Despite this diagnosis, Judi is letting nothing stand in her way of living a fulfilling life — and accomplishing her dreams. She had dreamed about seeing a Broadway play, so when she received the Wish of a Lifetime from AARP, a program that grants seniors their lifelong wishes, Judi and her daughter were treated to a luxurious trip to New York City, complete with tickets to see Moulin Rouge.

“The most wonderful thing to me was, it lifted me up out of my trajectory going down into illness,” she said of the experience. “It lifted me up — it made me see the world again and have hope again.”
