Israel Tan, Executive Chef at The Watermark at Westwood Village, has a passion for food that revolves around entertaining others—and it is a calling he found early in life. While growing up in the Philippines, he developed a strong interest in making pastries, which eventually led him to a culinary program at West Valley Occupational Center in California. After graduation, he accepted a position at a senior living facility and began honing his creative skills.
Flourishing under the tutelage of several talented chefs, Israel adopted their thinking that “no job is too small,” evolving into a talented chef himself as well as a strong leader. Dining Services Director James Howland knows more than a thing or two about providing a first-rate experience—he has worked in food and beverage, hospitality, and the senior living industry for more than 20 years.
Like Israel, James also developed a love of baking in his youth, eventually graduating from the Culinary Arts Program at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. He later worked as a chef and ran his own catering business. His real love is connecting with residents and continuing to elevate their culinary journeys. At The Watermark at Westwood Village, both Israel and James make dining an experience to remember.
